My name is Hannah Peterson, I have been around horses most
of my life and recently fell in love with the process of
starting colts.
I have worked with countless horses throughout my life and
have learned a lot through the experiences. Three years ago I
began attending Feather River College in Quincy to broaden my
skills and knowledge of working with and training horses.
During the two years I was there I learned more than I ever
thought I would know about horses. This is also where I
learned the process I use to train young horses; it does not
have to be a traumatic and rough experience for the horse, as
some people believe. I use “natural horsemanship” techniques
to work with the horse, not break it. It is much more
effective to gain a horses trust and work with that, than it
is to force them to accept being ridden. This is a much faster
process that makes my work more efficient.
When
starting a horse for someone I take into consideration what
the horse will be used for and work towards that. I have
experience with stallions and do not mind the extra challenge
that they bring, although I don’t care to deal with “mean”
horses. Depending on the horse I usually take about 30-60 days
to get a horse where it needs to be; during that time I like
the owner to come and watch to see how the horse is
progressing and to ask any questions about their horse. I ride
western but I do have some English background as well. I have
the knowledge teach a horse the basics to go in the right
direction for many disciplines like; Barrel racing, working
cow, reining, etc. As well as being taught to ride, I also
make sure the horse will pick up its feet, bathe, stand tied
and load in a trailer, as these are all things a riding horse
should know. I try to take exceptional care of my horses, so
when your horse is in my care I will do the best I can to make
sure your horse is healthy and happy.
Rates:
$375 a month for Training
$300 a month for Board, supplements must be provided by
owner.
